Fashion, Chanel, fashion image, fashion philosophy
Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only; fashion is something in the air. It’s the wind that blows in the new fashion; you feel it coming, you smell it. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening. Chanel
My relationship with Fashion is simple and at the same time comprehensive. The first thing we do in the morning is dressing up. We create our look, image and public feeling for the whole day. We know what is going to happen and try to create a perfect match to the situation, because as soon as we leave our house we forget about our outfit. Unless we feel, that there is something that doesn’t work. I create my image very carefully according to my philosophy, events, age and degree of carelessness I want to exhibit. In spite of the feeling that the real ‘I’ look out of my body with youthful eyes, I know that in order to avoid looking ridiculous I have to consider such an inevitable factor as ‘age’.
At forty, women used to exchange youth for elegance, poise, and mysterious allure, an evolution that left them undamaged. (Now they measure themselves against the very young with defences that can only be described as ridiculous.) Those are the thoughts of inimitable Chanel.
I would say, I personally miss some zest here, like ‘spoiling’ a perfect image somehow by adding one detail, that will take people aback: wait a minute, this does not match or do I get the message right? I love some intrigue in my look, it is like originate your image. Isn’t it fun? With that kind of attitude I dare more…
Chanel, Gwen Stephani
One of Chanel’s shrewd utterance on the art of dressing up approximately goes like this: dressed shabbily – they will remember the dress; dressed impeccably – they will remember the woman. The more I ponder, the more I am sure; it does not work today. Unless we change the meaning of the word ‘impeccable’. What is ‘impeccable’? Faultless, immaculate, perfect, pure. It would rather refer to the royalties’ and ‘first ladies’ style. Chanel herself was a perfect example of disobedience to the ‘perfect lady’ style. Her elegance was built on contrasts. They talk a lot about best-dressed people nowadays. For me it is one personality of Gwen Stephani. Look at her pert but pertinent outfits! She wears her elegant dresses and sporty trousers with equal uncomplicated grace. Her details and accessories are breathtaking. And she makes no secret of working hard on her look. NO DOUBT she is a style icon of today. She is a good fun and far from being careless or shocking. I think to be yourself is the best way. Speaking about personalities, I would dare to say that Michael Jackson was not only the king of pop, he was a style icon…
Tokyo fashion week, Prada, Sonya Rykiel
‘To fit in’ is a magic word if we speak about a stunning outfit, a fabulous pair of shoes, an image or…a place to be! As a person with an individual sense of fashion you can really enjoy life by intuitively anticipating the next trend and the next step of the main stream fashion. It is like a game, which started from doing opposite, being naughty and playful. Look at the collections at the Tokyo fashion week! This was a colourful festival of good old and faithful items intertwined in an It-girl style. Although a college girl would use bold opposite colours and a stylish adult woman would wear one colour breaking it with one bold accessory and red lips. Everything is so predictable but far from being boring! Fashion is in the air! Great ideas are everywhere. It is boring when people stick to one and the same item for years. It is like eating the same food every day! A ‘uniform’ has one depriving impact – mainstream thinking. That is why, I love Prada. Her last collection is elegant and down to earth, with strong contradictory attitude to traditional pieces. My very special prize goes to Sonya Rykiel, as her collection is just a carnival of life. Both collections are distinctive according to the colours, fabrics and high spirit. They perfectly fit in my perception of fashion. Do I fit in somewhere there?!
